Announcing our 2017 season!

Spring Gilbert & Sullivan: The Sorcerer

Celebrating its 140th anniversary this year, Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Sorcerer both mocks and celebrates English provincial life. The operetta centers on the eclectic inhabitants of a charming but caste-bound country village. Hilarity ensues when a progressive young man invites a Sorcerer to cast a love spell on the entire community so that all may find true happiness.

The Sorcerer will be performed at the Community School of Music and Art (CSMA) third floor Martha Hamblin Hall on Saturday May 6 at 7:30pm and Sunday May 7 at 2:00pm. The show will be presented at the Morgan Opera House in Aurora, NY on May 13 at 8:00pm. For our final show, we will bring The Sorcerer to Cornell University's Schwartz Center of the Performing Arts as part of their free summer events series on June 27 and 28 at 7:30pm.

Fall Musical: The Mystery of Edwin Drood

The Mystery of Edwin Drood will be staged on September 15, 16, and 17, 2017 at the Hangar Theatre, Ithaca, NY with a full orchestra. Based on Charles Dickens’ final novel, left incomplete at his death in 1870, The Mystery of Edwin Drood follows the members of the Theatre Royale Music Company as they bring to life-- and attempt to complete Dickens’ Gothic thriller—and invite audience to participate along the way. Auditions will be held in May, with rehearsals starting mid-July, 2017.

Savoyards Ithaca, founded as the Cornell Savoyards, has delighted Ithaca residents since 1953. We expose modern audiences to the wit and music of Gilbert and Sullivan, as well to other light opera and Broadway musical repertoire. Comprised of community members from Ithaca and the Finger Lakes region, as well as faculty, students, and staff from Cornell University and Ithaca College, we welcome new members interested in any and all aspects of musical theater.
